With a possible three more innings to bowl in this year, the leg spinner should close in on a century before the end of 2005.

David Ormerod has decided to join Accrington the club where he began playing cricket as a junior back in the 1980s. The league's leading amateur bowler has turned down offers from countless other clubs to return to his roots and 'put something back' into the Lancashire League's sleeping giant after deciding to leave Bacup due to the club's decision not to re-appoint him as captain after just one season in charge.
Saturday November 12th
The Lancashire League's leading amateur bowler maybe heading back to Accrington. David Ormerod has told Bacup he is leaving the club after being replaced by John Chapman as captain. The former Accrington junior is unhappy with the way that the club handled the issue and his favoured destination could well be Accrington. Ormerod has taken 877 wickets for the club at 17.1, second only behind Fred Hartley as Bacup's leading wicket taker of all time, since making his senior debut in 1990. The 36 year-old, who has attracted no shortage of interest from other clubs since the story broke last week, will now take a little time to consider his future.

Tariq Hussain has won the LET Bowling Award. Tariq became only the third Accrington player to scoop the prize after Alan Worsick (1970) and David Lloyd (1987) when he took 8-44 against Lowerhouse on May 7th. Tariq also took 8-98 against Church. The Batting Award was also won at Thorneyholme Road with Rishton's Peter Sleep hitting a season's high of 151 not out against Accrington, 1 more than Colne's Paul Wilson scored against Rishton in April. Nelson skipper Mike Bradley is the first wicketkeeper from his club to win the award since his Father-in-law Alan Haigh in 1969. Bradley's seven victims at Ramsbottom were the best of the season in the year that he also eclipsed his Father-in-law's club record for most victims in a season that he set back in the final year of the 1960s.

Tuesday August 30th
History is certainly not on Accrington's side as they bid to avoid adding another club record to their black list. Defeat at Enfield meant that the current side equalled the club record of 22 defeats in 1995. Defeat in the final two matches will mean equalling the 24 defeats of Colne in 1991 and Rishton in 2003. With East Lancs and title chasing Ramsbottom still to play the omens do not look promising. Accrington take on East Lancs at Alexandra Meadows, having beaten their Blackburn rivals just once (in 1996) in 24 league matches since 1994. Accrington will field an unchanged side whilst East Lancs bring back Mark Lomas for David Turner. Ghulam Bodi will be the professional.

The Under 13s home match against Rawtenstall has been changed from this Friday to next Friday, 26th August.
Accrington welcome back Zahir Afzal and Sagawat Hussain gets another chance with James Ormerod and Adam Barnes both unavailable for the weekends double header. On Saturday our visitors Colne will be looking to put aside the disappointment of losing one of the best matches of the season at Ramsbottom last Sunday. Professional Mahendra Nagamootoo needs another 26 wickets from seven matches to become the first bowler to take 100 wickets since Adam Dale in 2000. If he maintains his current strike rate he will just notch a century and he wont be far short of 1,000 runs should he maintain his current batting average. On Sunday its derby day with the annual visit to Church.
Thursday August 11th
There are two re-arranged Junior games next week both at home against Haslingden. On Monday the Under 17s play and on Tuesday it's the turn of the Under 13s.
Wednesday August 10th
The Under 11 "A" Team fixture at home to Salesbury has been penciled in for Thursday 25th August.
Accrington and Bacup are involved in a bottom of the table clash at Thorneyholme Road. Both sides have shown an improvement of late with Accrington beating both Nelson and Haslingden before running into Lowerhouse last Sunday. Bacup have also made great strides with a tie at Nelson followed by the demolition of East Lancs last week with professional Adam Griffith at last getting it right and bowling Bacup to an impressive win. Accrington are hoping that skipper Matt Wilson will be fit after a back injury. Tariq Hussain has also been named for the first time since his heroics at Nelson last month and James Ormerod retains his place after impressing at Lowerhouse last week so Adam Barnes returns to the seconds.
Monday August 1st
Accrington travel to joint leaders Lowerhouse on Saturday looking for a third successive win after a run of 16 straight defeats. Both clubs are on the crest of a wave with Lowerhouse fresh from a convincing win at Acre Bottom last Sunday that erased Ramsbottom's 12 point cushion and put the title race back in the melting pot.

There isn't much of a form line to go off in the match at Thorneyholme Road between Accrington and Haslingden. The home side won for the first time in 17 outings last Sunday whilst Haslingden have won just one of their last seven league and cup matches having fallen 35 points behind Ramsbottom. Both sides are unchanged.
Tuesday July 26th
Tariq Hussain, currently out of bowling action with a side strain, has the best strike rate in the league averages at 22.9 for his 34 wickets. East Lancs former professional Loots Bosman has the best strike rate of the professionals with 24 for his 44 wickets.

Sunday July 17th
Two 3rd XI games have been re-arranged. On Bank Holiday Monday August 29th we entertain Rawtenstall and the following Saturday we travel to Church in the final game of the season.
Thursday July 14th
Accrington desperately need Tama Canning to conjure up a match winning performance at Centre Vale if they are to avoid joining Rishton on a league record 15 successive defeats. The New Zealand One Day International has accumulated 311 runs at 31.1 and picked up 18 wickets at 26.4 but failed to produce the goods in league matches. Canning's two outstanding performances have been reserved for the Inter League Trophy and the Accrington amateurs have not found any consistency to fill in the gaps. Andrew Greenwood replaces Adam Barnes in the Accrington side. Ilyas Hussain comes in for Mark Clayton in the Todmorden line up.
Wednesday July 6th
Accrington skipper Matt Wilson returns to face his old club Rawtenstall at Thorneyholme Road on Sunday as Accrington bid to avoid joining Bacup (1906), Colne (1991) and Rishton (2002-3) in the Lancashire League history books as clubs who have lost 14 matches on the trot. Andrew Greenwood returns to the seconds to accommodate Wilson.
Thursday June 30th
The Under 11 "A" Team fixture on Monday 4th July, away to Longridge is to be re-arranged.
Wednesday June 29th
Rock bottom side Accrington look to halt their losing run at twelve in a local derby at Rishton on Saturday. Two years ago the positions were reversed with Rishton ending a losing run of 14 at Accrington's expense. The visitors will be hoping that Sunday's Worsley Cup semi final weighs heavily on the minds of Scott Greaves' troops. Rishton name their strongest available side which means that Neil Wells and Jimmy Bibby are retained with Irfan Kazi keeping wicket. Shaun Hutchinson misses out and Matt Leathert is unavailable. Accrington skipper Matt Wilson is unavailable so Andrew Greenwood returns. Tama Canning takes over as captain.

Accrington again look to end their losing league sequence at nine with East Lancs visiting Thorneyholme Road on Sunday. The last time Accrington had a start as bad as this was in 1991 when Shane Warne was professional. There are three survivors from that game, both on the visiting side - Andy Clague, who replaces Phil Mercer on Sunday, Mark Lomas and Dave Pearson. Accrington are without skipper Matt Wilson who is replaced by Scott Hudson. Professional Tama Canning is captain. [Latest teams]

Enfield are unchanged whilst Accrington bring in Waqas Ahmed, Adam Wilson and Waheed Hussain in place of Scott Hudson, Andrew Greenwood and Stuart Crabtree.
Tuesday June 7th
Tariq Hussain is currently the league's top amateur wicket taker with 28 victims to his name. Tariq has two eight wicket hauls, including a career best 8-44 against Lowerhouse which stands as the best by an amateur this season. His 8-98 against Church on Sunday means that Tariq needs only five more wickets to set a personal best for a season. He is also on course to become the first Accrington amateur to pass 50 wickets in a season since the great Alan Worsick in 1984. [Tariq Profile]
Friday June 3rd

Former Accrington junior David Bury, one of four ex Accrington players returning to Thorneyholme Road, replaces the unavailable Alec Holt for Church. Mohsin Ahmed, Damian Clarke and Adam Wilson return at the expense of Adam Barnes, Waqas Ahmed and Stuart Crabtree, one of the heroes of Monday's win at Werneth.

Saturday sees anoth attempt to play the 1st Round of the Worsley Cup. The last time that Accrington beat Ramsbottom in the Worsley Cup was back in 1991 when Shane Warne was professional. There is no sign of the 'Great One ' this weekend, but Tama Canning is almost back to full fitness and he will be the man Accrington will look to to counter the threat of Kartik Murali. A 10 over restriction will also even things up, but Ramsbottom have plenty of bowling options. Mohsin Ahmed, Adam Wilson and Damian Clarke are missing from the Accrington line up for various reasons so Scott Hudson, Mick Horsfield and Waqas Ahmed come in.
On Sunday Adam Wilson and Mohsin Ahmed replace Stuart Crabtree and Sagawat Hussain at Rawtenstall.
Accrington travel to Werneth on Monday in the 2nd Round of the Inter League Trophy. The last time the clubs met was in 1997 at Thorneyholme Road with Werneth winning by 2 wickets. This was both clubs first match in what was then a brand new competition. Peter Sleep was Accrington's sub professional in the absence of Nathan Astle. Sleep top scored with 79 in Accrington's 134 all out. Only three other players made double figures with Billy Rawstron, Steve Birtwistle and Martin Whittle each making 12. Werneth's New Zealand professional Robert Kennedy took 5-12 in 9 overs with skipper John Punchard also taking 2-32. Sleep (2-11) and the only two Accrington survivors from this match - Tariq Hussain (2-29) and Zahir Afzal (2-32) took three wickets apiece to make life difficult for Werneth but Punchard hit 44 and Webb 25 to ensure a 2 wicket win for the visitors. Tuesday April 26th
Accrington travel to Haslingden in a complete role reversal from 12 months ago. This time last year, Accrington were riding high on top of the table after three successive wins but Haslingden put an end to the Thorneyholme Road's lofty ambitions and Matt Wilson's side began a slide down the table. Wilson's men would love to take revenge for last season's defeat but the odds are stacked against them with the champions on a tremendous role that has seen maximum points from the opening three fixtures. There is no place in the Haslingden side for Jimmy Hayhurst in spite of the former Accrington paceman taking 7-16 in the seconds last Saturday. Professional Tama Canning should have recovered from his knee injury in time to play. Andrew Greenwood keeps his place with Mick Horsfield returning to the seconds to accommodate Graeme Sneddon.
Wednesday April 20th
Tama Canning arrived today and will play his first match of the season for Accrington at Colne where he made a superb unbeaten 151 on his last visit.
