Rawtenstall made history by winning the double for the first time in after wrapping up their first league title win in 50 years by beating Nelson who denied Rawtenstall the bonus point but in the end it made no difference because Accrington failed to pick up 5 points at Colne to force a play off. Accrington declared on 174-7 with 14 balls remaining with time running out in a bid to gain the bonus point but Colne held out at 168-5. Alan Worsick (44) and Alan Kennedy (50) put on 99 for the 6th wicket after solid knocks by Graham Beech (24) and Malcolm Taylor (23). Trevor Lonsdale batted through for an unbeaten 49 and Peter Davies hit 83 as Colne came close to victory at 168-5. Dave Parsons took 3-37 for Accrington who finished second on 74 points, 1 point behind the new champions Rawtenstall.
